  • Cigarette smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in the United States.

  • Tobacco use continues to be the leading cause of preventable death and disease in West Virginia.
  • The adult smoking rate is 26.8% which is second highest in the United States.
  • The rate of smokeless tobacco use among males is 15.5%.
  • The rate of dual use (smokers who also use smokeless tobacco) is 9.6%.
